An Act to amend and reenact § 58-247 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to compensation and expenses of certain probation and parole oficen
Approved March 10, 1956
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
z i That § 53-247 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 58-247. Each probation and parole officer shall also be paid all
necessary traveling and other expenses incurred by him in the discharge
of his duties hereunder *. The salary and expenses herein provided for
shall be paid by the State and no part shall be paid by or chargeable to any
county or city, except as hereinafter provided.
Provided, however, the governing body of any county having a popu-
lation in excess of two thousand inhabitants per square mile or of any
county or city adjoining such county or any county with a population of
more than twenty-two thousand but less than twenty-three thousand may
add to the fixed compensation of such probation and parole officers such
amount as such governing body may appropriate with such total amount
not to exceed fifty per cent of the amount paid by the State to such proba-
tion and parole officers and provided further that no such additional
amount paid by such cities, county or counties shall be chargeable to the
Department of Welfare and Institutions or the Parole Board, nor will tt
remove or supersede any authority, control or supervision of such Depart-
ment or Board.
