CHAPTER 206

An Act to amend and reenact § 18-82 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to adultery and fornication; incest. [H 398]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

a That § 18-82 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:

§ 18-82. If any person commit adultery or fornication * such person
shall be fined not less than twenty dollars. And if * such person commit
adultery or fornication with any person, whom he or she is forbidden by
law to marry, * such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor ; provided,
however, that if * such person commit adultery or fornication with his
or her daughter, son, granddaughter, or grandson, * such person shall be
confined in the penitentiary not less than one nor more than ten years
or, in the discretion of the court or jury trying the case, confined in jail
net exceeding twelve months and by a fine not exceeding five hundred
dollars, either or both.
