CHAPTER 127
AN ACT to amend and reenact §§ 68-291 and 68-292 of the Code of Vir-
ginia and to repeal §§ 68-289 and 68-290 of the Code of Virginia,
all of which sections relate to delinquent, dependent and neglected
children. CH 221]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 63-291 and 63-292 of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 63-291. The State Board is hereby authorized and empowered to
receive * children committed to it by the courts of the State pursuant to
§ 16-172.44 of the Code of Virginia and * * * is authorized to establish one
or more receiving homes for the care, supervision and study of * children
thus committed to it, or to make arrangements with satisfactory persons,
institutions, or agencies, or with cities or counties maintaining places of
detention for children, for the temporary care of * such children as may
be committed to the Board.
§ 63-292. The State Board is further authorized to make a careful
physical and mental examination of every child mentioned in * § 68-291,
to investigate in detail the personal and family history of the child and
its environment, and to place such children in * such facilities as are
available and deemed by the Board to be for the best interest of the child
and the State. Any such children committed to the State Board and after-
wards found to be eligible for commitment by proper proceedings to any
State institution shall take precedence as to admission over all others and
shall in all cases be received into the State institution as soon as possible.
2. That §§ 63-289 and 63-290 of the Code of Virginia are repealed.
