CHAPTER 108
AN ACT to amend and reenact § 2-20.1, as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to permissive closing by banks on Saturday in certain
counties and cities. CH 89]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 2-20.1, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, be amended and
reenacted as follows:
; § 2-20.1. It shall be lawful for any bank as defined in § 6-6, includ-
ing national banking associations and federal reserve banks, located in
a county having a population of more than twenty-three thousand three
hundred thirty and less than twenty-three thousand three hundred ninety,
or in any city having a population of less than five thousand seven hundred,
or located in a city of this State having a population in excess of two
hundred thousand according to the latest preceding United States census,
or located in a city any portion of which city is within five miles of a city
of said size, whether within or without this State, or located in a city of
the State having a population of more than forty-five thousand and not
more than fifty thousand according to the latest preceding United States
census, or in any city having a population of more than twelve thousand

two hundred but not more than twelve thousand three hundred fifty, or
in any city of the State having a population of more than thirty thousand
and not more than forty thousand, or in any city within five miles of a
city of said size, or in any county having a population of more than four-
teen thousand nine hundred and less than fifteen thousand one hundred,
or in any county adjoining three cities, two of which have a population
of more than eighty thousand, or in any county adjoining three or more
cities, one of which has a population in excess of two hundred thousand
lying wholly within the State, or in any county having a population of
more than thirty-three thousand five hundred but less than thirty-four
thousand, or in any city having a population of more than nine thousand
four hundred but less than ten thousand four hundred, or in any county
having a population of more than eleven thousand five hundred, but less
than twelve thousand, or in any county having a population of more than
seventy thousand but less than ninety-nine thousand, or in a county hav-
ing a population in excess of seventeen thousand but not in excess of
seventeen thousand five hundred, or in any county having a population
of more than twenty-seven thousand seven hundred, but less than twenty-
eight thousand, or in any city having a population of more than eighty-
five thousand but not more than two hundred thousand or any bank in a
city of said size having one or more branch banks located in a town, any
portion of which town is within five miles of any such city, or in any city
having a population of more than twenty-five thousand but less than
thirty thousand, to permit any one or more or all its offices located
in such a city, town or county to remain closed on any one or more or
all Saturdays, as the bank, by resolution of its board of directors, may
from time to time determine. Any Saturday on which an office of a bank
shall remain closed, as herein permitted, shall, as to such office, constitute
a legal holiday, and any act authorized, required or permitted to be per-
formed at, by or with respect to any such office on a Saturday on which
the office is so closed, may be performed on the next succeeding business
day and no liability or loss of rights of any kind shall result from such
delay.
