An Act to amend and reenact § 1 of Chapter 65 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1944, approved February 26, 1944, which section permitted elec-
tion of assessors for assessment and equalization of assessment in
certain cities, and which Chapter was continued in effect by § 58-769
of the Code of Virginia. tH 271]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 1 of Chapter 65 of the Acts of Assembly of 1944, approved
February 26, 1944, which Chapter was continued in effect by § 58-769 of
the Code of Virginia, be amended and reenacted as follows:
. The governing body of any city having a population of not
less than forty-five thousand nor more than * sixty-five thousand may, in
lieu of any other method prescribed by general law, elect one or more
assessors to assess real estate and equalize real estate assessments in the
city every one, two, three, or four years, as the governing body from time
to time directs, and to that end it may establish a city real estate assess-
ment office. The term of office of the assessor or assessors shall be as
prescribed by the governing body, which shall also fill any vacancies that
occur.
