An Act to amend and reenact § 15-688 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to land owned by counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-688 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted,
as follows:
§ 15-688. The board of supervisors of any county may, if they deem
expedient, acquire, in addition to the two acres of land aforementioned,
as much as twenty acres of land at any point within their county to be
used for county purposes, and in counties having a density of population
of three hundred or more per square mile, in counties adjoining a county
having a population of more than one thousand per square mile and in
counties having a population not less than twenty thousand, nor more
than forty thousand, and adjoining two or more cities within this State,
one of which cities has a population of one hundred and seventy thousand
or more, as much as fifty acres for county purposes including the use of
the local board of health, and for such other purposes as the * governing
bodies of such counties may deem to be necessary, and in counties having
a population of more than fifty-six thousand five hundred but less than
sixty-five thousand and adjoining a city with a population of more than
two hundred twenty-five thousand, as much as one thousand acres for
county purposes and for such other purposes as the board of supervisors
may deem necessary.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
