An Act to amend and reenact § 8-272 of the Code of Virginia, relating to
authentication of records of United States or other state public offices
so as to permit the introduction in evidence of Interstate Commerce
Commission or State Corporation Commission printed copies of sched-
ules and classifications and tariffs of rates, fares and charges without
certification.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
ae That § 8-272 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 8-272. Authentication of records of United States or other state
public offices.—All records and exemplifications of office books kept in
any public office of the United States, or of a state, not appertaining to a
court, shall be evidence in any court or office in this State, if attested by
the keeper of such records or books, with the seal of his office annexed, if
there be a seal, and certified by any judge of a court of record in the
county, city, town, or district in which such office is, or of the governor,
the secretary of state, the chancellor, or the keeper of the great seal of the
state, to be attested in due form, and by the proper officer. Such cer-
tificate, if given by the judge of a court, shall be authenticated by the
clerk or prothonotary of such court, who shall certify under his hand and
the seal of his office, that such judge is duly commissioned and qualified;
or if such certificate be given by the governor, the secretary of state, the
chancellor, or the keeper of the great seal, it shall be under the great seal
of the state in which such certificate is made; provided, however, that
printed copies of schedules and classifications and tariffs of rates, fares
and charges, and supplements thereto, filed with the Interstate Commerce
Commission, or State Corporation Commission, which show respectively
an Interstate Commerce Commission or State Corporation Commission
number, which may be stated in abbreviated form, as I.C.C. No.—,or V.C.C.
No.—, and an effective date, may be received in evidence without authent-
cation or certification, and shall be presumed to be correct copies of the
original schedules, classifications, tariffs and supplements on file with the
Interstate Commerce Commission or State Corporation Commission.
