An Act to provide for the appointment of a planning commission by
counties that have adopted a zoning ordinance under § 15-855 of the
Code of Virginia.
[H 669]
Approved April 3, 1952
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Any county in the State that has adopted a zoning ordinance, as
provided in § 15-855 of the Code of Virginia, may appoint a planning
commission to assist it in the administration of the zoning ordinance and
other matters affecting the growth and development of the county. Should
it be deemed necessary, the Board may authorize by ordinance the planning
commission to hold public hearings for the purpose of investigating the
advisability of amending the zoning ordinance or determining its recom-
mendation to the board of supervisors on any matters referred to it. The
planning commission shall consist of not less than five nor more than
fifteen persons, one of whom shall be the county manager, county executive,
county engineer, executive secretary, or any other official representative
of the board of supervisors, where such officers are provided for as a part
of the county administration, and one of whom may be a member of the
board of supervisors. All members of the planning commission shall serve
without compensation for terms coincident with the board of supervisors
by which they are appointed.
