CHAPTER 453
An Act to amend and reenact Chapter 506 of the Acts of Assembly of
1950, approved April 7, 1950, which was incorporated by reference
by § 18-147.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating to the carrying of
loaded firearms on highways in certain counties.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That Chapter 506 of the Acts of Assembly of 1950, approved April 7,
1950, which was incorporated by reference by § 18-147.1 of the Code of
Virginia, be amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 1. In any county having a population in excess of three thousand
five hundred but not in excess of four thousand and * in any county having
a population in excess of four thousand five hundred but not in excess of
four thousand seven hundred, it shall be unlawful for any person to carry
or have in his possession while on any part of a public highway a loaded
firearm when such person is not authorized to hunt on the private prop-
erty on both sides of the highway along which he is standing or walking.
Any person violating any provision of this act shall be fined not less
than ten dollars nor more than fifty dollars.
§ 2. The provisions of this act shall not apply to persons carrying
loaded firearms in moving vehicles, nor to persons acting at the time in
defense of person or property.
Game wardens, sheriffs, and all law enforcement officers includ-
ing State Police shall enforce the provisions of this act.
