CHAPTER 435
An Act to amend Chapter 16, as amended, of the Acts of Assembly of
1924, approved February 13, 1924, which provided a charter for the
town of Edinburg, by adding a section numbered § 4-c relating to
election and terms of office of mayor and town council and to repeal
§ 4-b of the charter which was added by Chapter 320 of the Acts
of Assembly of 1948, approved March 17, 1948, relating to the
foregoing.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That Chapter 16, as amended, of the Acts of Assembly of 1924, ap-
proved February 13, 1924, be amended by adding a section numbered
§ 4-c, as follows:
§ 4-c. Notwithstanding any other provision of this charter, or
amendment thereto, at the election to be held on the second Tuesday in
June, nineteen hundred and fifty-two, there shall be elected by the qualified
voters of the town of Edinburg, a mayor and three councilmen, who
together with the three members of the council elected on the second Tues-
day of June, nineteen hundred and fifty, shall constitute the mayor and
six councilmen of the town of Edinburg until the election to be held
on the second Tuesday in June, nineteen hundred and fifty-four, at which
time, and each two years thereafter, there shall be elected by the qualified
voters of the said town, three councilmen, whose term of office shall be
for four years, and a mayor whose term of office shall be for two years.
At the first meeting of the council after their election they shall appoint
such officers for the town as are provided for by this charter.
2. § 4-b of Chapter 16 of the Acts of Assembly of 1924, which section
was added by Chapter 320 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, approved
March 17, 1948, is repealed.
3. An emergency exists and this Act is in force from its passage.
