An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding thereto a section, num-
bered 58-776.5, so as to authorize the governing bodies of certain
cities of the second class to provide for reassessment of real ae

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto a section
numbered 58-776.5, as follows:
§ 58-776.5. (a) The governing body of any city of the second class
which has not had a reassessment of its real estate since its transforma-
tion from a town to a city of the second class may within one year of
its becoming a city of the second class proceed with a general reassess-
ment of its real estate under the general laws of the State providing for
reassessment of real estate in cities.
(b) Upon petition of the governing body of such city of the second
class to the proper court or judge thereof in vacation for such reassess-
ment, the court or judge shall appoint assessors who shall proceed to
make such reassessment under the general laws of the State of Virginia.
2. An emergency exists and this Act is in force from its passage.
