CHAPTER 106
An Act to amend and reenact § 8, as amended, of Chap 90 of the Acts
of Assembly of 1872-78, approved February 17, 1878, which act pro-
vided a charter for the town of Rocky Mount, and which section
related to the administration and government of the town.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 3, as amended, of Chap 90 of the Acts of Assembly of
1e72- -73, approved February 17, 1878, be amended and reenacted, as
ollows:
§ 3. The administration and government of said town shall be vested
in one principal officer, to be styled the mayor, who, with six other trustees,
shall constitute the council of said town, all of whom shall be selected
from among the electors of the town and elected by the qualified voters
residing within its corporate limits on the second Tuesday in June, eighteen
hundred and ninety-two and every two years thereafter, holding their
offices for the term of two years commencing on the first day of September
next after their election, and afterwards until their successor shall qualify.
In the said council, so composed as aforesaid, there shall be vested the
corporate powers of said town, and it shall be known as the council of
the town of Rocky Mount. In the event of resignation, removal, or dis-
qualification of the mayor for any reason or cause, the council shall appoint
an elector to act as mayor for the remainder of the term of office and
until his successor shall be elected and qualified. The mayor shall receive
a salary the amount of which shall be determined by the council but
which shall be not more than one hundred fifty dollars per month. The
mayor, with any four of the other trustees, shall constitute a quorum of the
council to do business.
