Chap. 60.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the fifth Section of an Act
to appropriate the income arising from the proceeds of the land scrip
accruing to Virginia under Act of Congress of July 2d, 1862, and the
Acts amendatory thereof, approved March 19th, 1872, and March 26th,
1872.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section five of an act to appropriate the income arising from
the proceeds of the land scrip accruing to Virginia, under act of
congress of July second, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, and
the acts amendatory thereof, approved March nineteenth, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-two, as amerded by the act approved.
March 26th, 1872, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as.
follows:
§ 5. On the first day of January eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, or as soon thereafter as practicable, the governor, by and
with the advice and consent of the senate, shall appoint nine
persons as visitors of said college, three of whom, to be desig-
nated as first class, shall continue in office until the first of
January, eighteen hundred and seventy-four; three, to be desig-
nated second class, shall continue in office until the first of
January, eighteen hundred and seventy-five, and the remaining
three, to be designated as third class, shall continue in office
until the first of January, eighteen hundred and seventy-six ;.
and annually, on the first day of January, the governor shall
appoint three persons to fill the vacancies so occasioned in the
board of visitors, who shall continue in office three years, or
until the appointment and acceptance of their successors, and
if a vacancy shall occur in the office of visitor, the governor V
shall fill the same for the unexpired term thereof. The board ™
of education, and the president of the Virginia state agricul- v
tural society shall be ex-officio members of the board of visi- °
tors of the Virginia agricultural and mechanical college, and vi
of the board of curators of the Hampton normal and agricul- B
tural institute; and the persons so appointed shall be distrib- %
uted as nearly equally as practicable between the four grand r ;
divisions of the state.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. C
