Chap. 6.—An ACT Authorizing the Old]Dominion Coal Company to Con-
struct a Railroad from their Coal Mines, in Powhatan county, to James
river.
Approved December 18, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the Old Dominion Coal Company, incorporated by the Circuit
court of the city of Richmond on the twenty-seventh day of
September, eighteen hundred and seventy-two, under the sta-
tute of Virginia, in such cases made and provided, be, and
it is hereby authorized, to construct a railroad from their coal
mines, in Powhatan county, to some convenient point on James
river, passing through the lands of Mathew Brown, Sample
Ellett and Miles Selden, in said county, for the purpose of
transporting coal and other articles incident to their mining
operations.
2. That the said company be allowed two years within which
to complete the construction of said railroad.
3. That the said company, in relation to the railroad hereby
‘ authorized, shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges,
- and subjected to all the restrictions and liabilities provided im
the Code and general laws of Virginia in regard to railroad
companies, as far as applicable.
- _ 4, That the said company are hereby authorized to condemn
at the terminus of their road, on James river, sufficient land,
not to exceed two acres, to be used for a depot and other pur-
poses necessary for the shipping and transportation of coal and
other necessary articles.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
