Chap. 56.—An ACT to Authorize the Virginia and North Carolina Rail-
road Company to assume and be known by the name of the Washing-
ton City, Virginia, Midland and Great Southern Railroad Company.

Whereas, in pursuance of authority conferred by an act, ap-
proved January fourteenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one,
the Orange, Alexandria and Manassas Railroad Company, and
the Lynchburg and Danville Railroad Company, have consoli-
dated and formed one company, under the name of the Vir-
ginia and North Carolina Railroad Company, and the consoli-
dated company desiring to assume another name ; now, there-
fore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the Virginia
and North Carolina Railroad Company be authorized to assume
and be known by the name of the Washington City, Virginia,
’ Midland and Great Southern Railroad Company, and as such,
be entitled to, and invested with, the charters, all the rights,
authorities, privileges, franchises, effects, and estate of said
Virginia and North Carolina Railroad Company.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
