AN ACT to provide a trial board for members of fire depart-
ments of certain counties. [ H 39 ]
Approved February 9, 1950
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
§ 1. In any county having a population of more than two
thousand per square mile as shown by the last preceding United
States Census there shall be a trial board to hear and decide
appeals by members of the fire department of such county.
§ 2. Such trial board shall hear and decide appeals filed
by paid members of the fire department who have been sus-
pended, demoted or discharged by the county manager. No
member shall file any such appeal unless and until he has been
a member of the department for at least four months. The board
shall consist of a practicing lawyer of the local bar in good
standing in the county appointed by the county board; a citizen
of the county selected by a majority vote of the paid members
of the county fire department, the person thus selected to be
appointed by the county board; and a third person appointed
by the other two members within ten days after their appoint-
ment; such members to serve for a period of one year from the
date of their appointment. The first appointments shall be made
within thirty days from the effective date of this act. If any
member of the trial board resigns, the vacancy shall be filled
for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original
appointment.
