AN ACT to amend and reenact § 15-289 of the Code of 1950, so
as to fix a new maximum salary for the clerk of the board
of Accomack County.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-239 of the Code of 1950 be amended and re-
enacted as follows:
§ 15-239. Salaries of clerks in certain counties. — The
clerks of the boards of the counties of Augusta and Wise may,
in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not exceeding
nine hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of the
counties of Accomack, Amelia, Amherst, Bath, Caroline, Han-
over, King William, Highland, Dinwiddie, Lee, Grayson, Bu-
thanan, Russell, Prince George, Surry, Gloucester, Mathews,
Middlesex, Orange, Madison, Pulaski, Southampton, Brunswick,
Greensville, Sussex, Nottoway, York, Charles City, James City
and New Kent may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a
salary not to exceed the sum of three hundred dollars a year.
The clerks of the boards of the counties of Culpeper and Giles
may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not to
exceed six hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of
Fairfax and Rockingham counties may, in the discretion of the
boards, receive a salary not in excess of twelve hundred dollars
a year. And the clerk of the board of Alleghany county may, in
the discretion of the board, receive a salary not in excess of
seven hundred dollars a year.
