CHAPTER 57
AN ACT to establish the Judicial Conference of Virginia, to de-
fine its membership, and to provide for the duties and
payment of the expenses of its members.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby established the Judicial Conference of Vir-
yinia, which shall have as its active members the Chief Justice
and Justices of the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia, all
other judges of the courts of record of the Commonwealth and
all retired justices and judges of such courts. Judges of the
Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Judges of the Federal
District Courts of the State of Virginia, the Attorney General
9f Virginia, the Chairmen of the Courts of Justice Committees
»f the Senate and House of Delegates, the President and Secre-
ary of the Virginia State Bar and the President and Secretary
‘f the Virginia State Bar Association shall be honorary mem-
ers of the Conference without voting privilege.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals shall
be the President of the Judicial Conference. The Conference
shall elect from the judges, active and retired, of trial courts of
record an Executive Committee of five, and this Committee
shall elect one of its members as Chairman. The Chief Justice,
or a Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals designated by him,
shall be an ex officio member of the Executive Committee.
The Conference shall meet at least once in each calendar
year at the call of the President and at such other times as may
be designated by him or by the Executive Committee for the
purpose of discussing and considering means and methods of
improving the administration of justice in this State. If any
active member shall for any cause be unable to attend, he shall
promptly notify the President or the Chairman of the Executive
Committee, as the case may be. Unless excused from attendance,
it shall be the duty of each active member to attend and remain
throughout the proceedings of the Conference. The active mem-
bers and honorary members holding State positions shall re-
ceive their actual expenses while in attendance at the meetings
cf the Conference, and of the Executive Committee.
