AN ACT to amend and reenact § 18-317 of the Code of 1950 re-
lating to license tares on dance halls so as to permit certain
counties to increase the maximum taz applicable thereto.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
l. That § 18-317 of the Code of 1950 be amended and reenacted
as follows:
§ 18-317. License taxes for public dance halls.—Nothing con-
tained in §§ 18-314 to 18-316 shall be construed as exempting any
such public dance hall from the payment of any license tax im-
posed by law; and the governing body of each and every county is
hereby authorized to impose a county license of not exceeding five
dollars on every person operating or conducting any such public
dance hall in such county; provided, however, that in any county
adjoining any county having a density of population of five hundred
or more per square mile the governing body is hereby authorized
to impose a county license of not exceeding one hundred dollars
on every person, firm and corporation operating or conducting any
such public dance hall in its county; and provided further that
any county adjoining a county having a population of more than
one thousand per square mile may impose a county license of not
erceeding siz hundred dollars on every person, firm and corpora-
tion operating or conducting any such public dance hall in the
county.
