AN ACT to permit deer killed or injured by motor vehicles to be
kept by the operators of such motor vehicles; to prescribe
the circumstances under which such deer may be kept and to
repeal certain acts and regulations.
[ H 420 ]
Approved April 3, 1950
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. Any person who, while driving a motor vehicle, is
involved in a collision with a deer may upon compliance with
the provisions hereof keep such deer for his own purposes.
§ 2. The person so killing or injuring any deer shall, if
the deer be not killed at once, kill the same and forthwith take
the carcass to the game warden, trial justice or a justice of the
peace of the county. The game warden, trial justice or justice of
the peace shall view the deer and if he believes that the deer was
killed by collision with the motor vehicle or injured to such
extent thereby as to require its death he shall award the same
to the person so claiming the deer, and shall give such person a
certificate to that effect on forms furnished by the Commission
of Game and Inland Fisheries.
§ 3. Any person awarded a deer hereunder may make use
thereof as if the same had been killed by him during the season
therefor.
2. All acts and parts of acts and regulations of the Commis-
sion of Game and Inland Fisheries in conflict herewith are
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
