CHAPTER 210
AN ACT to amend and reenact § 53-140 of the Code of 1950 re-
lating to designation of jails to provide for the designation
by a trial justice instead of a justice of the peace.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 53-140 of the Code of 1950 be amended and re-
enacted as follows:
§ 53-140. In the recess of the court of the county or city,
and before a jail is adopted under the preceding section, the
judge of the court or * the trial justice may, by warrant, direct
any person committed or to be committed to the jail of such
county or city, to be conveyed by the officer in whose custody
he is, to some other jail, to be designated in the warrant.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from passage.
