Chap. 309.—An ACT to incorporate the Richmond Hebrew Benevolent
Society.
Approved March 31, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Abraham Levy, William Fleishman, Isaac Hutzler, Jacob A.
Levy, William Heller, Joseph Levy, Alfred Moses, B. Beecher,
M. Rosenbaum, Sol. Wise, I. Hollander, William Lovenstein,
and such other persons as may hereafter become associated
with them, are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate,
by the name of the Richmond Hebrew Benevolent Society, for
the purpose of dispensing charity and promoting the cause of
education, and to be subject to the provisions of any general
law of the state, now or heréaiter to be in force, applying to
the same.
2. The said society may purchase or receive by deed of gift or
devise, and hold or lease any real or personal estate, and lease,
rent, sell, invest or otherwise dispose of the same in such
manner as may seem most to the advantage of said society :
provided, it shall not hold real estate of value exceeding twenty
thousand dollars. ,
3. The said society shall have power to make and adopt a
constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admis-
sion and expulsion of its members, and for their government,
the election of its officers and to define their duties, and for
the safe-keeping and protection of its property and funds, and
from time to time to alter and repeal such constitution, by-
laws, rules and regulations: provided, the same be not incon-
sistent with the constitution of the United States or of this state.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage and be subject
to amendment, alteration or modification at the pleasure of the
general assembly.
