Chap. 30.—An ACT to Provide for a Re-division of the County of Fair-
fax into Townships.
In force January 16, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be the duty of the governor of this commonwealth, as
soon after the passage of this act as may be, to appoint in the
county of Fairfax, three discreet men, citizens of said county,
to re-divide said county into three, and in their discretion, not
more than four townships, and he shall inform said commis-
sioners forthwith of their appointment.
2. The said commissioners shall proceed without delay to
the discharge of the duties imposed upon them by this act,
conforming in all respects in their action to the provisions of
an act approved April second, eighteen hundred and seventy,
entitled “ An act to provide for dividing the several counties of
this state into townships.”
3. The re-division of said county into townships under this
act, shall take effect on the first day of July eighteen hundred
and seventy-three, and the election of township officers for
said townships shall be held on the fourth Thursday in May,
eighteen hundred and seventy-three, in accordance with the
provisions of existing laws: provided that at that election
there shall be elected in each township, three justices of the
peace and three constables, whose terms shall be one, two, and
three years respectively.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
