Chap. 242.—An ACT in Relation to the Records of Alexandria County.
Approved March 26, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Recor
the judge of the county court for Alexandria county shall cause PoPom
the papers, record books and land books, now in the custody andria
of the clerk of said court and the clerk of the circuit court for ™°%%4
said county, and now in the courthouse and clerk's office thema
thereof, to be removed to the market building erected by the
city council of Alexandria in said city; the land books to be
lodged in the fire proof record room in said building; the re-
cords of causes and other books and papers aforesaid to be
lodged in that room, or some other room to be designated by
the said city council; the clerks of the corporation court and whot
the circuit court for the city of Alexandria to have the custody custea
of the land books up to the time of the organization of the “
said corporation court.
2. Be it further enacted, That the circuit and county courts circuit
for said county be held and the clerk’s offices thereof be kept county
in such rooms in said building as the city council of Alexan- where
dria may set apart for that purpose: provided, that the said pProvis
city council assent to this act, and pass an ordinance to carry
out its provisions.
3. Be it further enacted, That the judge of the county court rent &
aforesaid shall have authority to contract with the said city % %¢
council for a reasonable compensation for the use of the rooms
aforesaid, should this act be carried into force.
4. Be it further enacted, That in the event the city council when
of Alexandria should decline to pass an ordinance for the pur books
poses aforesaid, it shall nevertheless be the duty of the judge”
of the county court for Alexandria county to cause the land
books of said county up to the organization of the said corpo-
ration court to be removed and kept as provided by the first
section of this act.
