Chap. 24.—An ACT for the Relief of Joseph T. Griffith and others,
Sureties of Charles A. Milton, late Collector of Battletown Township,
County of Clarke.
Approved January 18, 1878.
Whereas, it is represented that the uncollected tax bills that
were in the hands of Charles A. Milton, late collector of Bat-
tletown township, in the county of Clarke, were, under chap-
ter three hundred and twelve of the Acts of General Assembly
of Virginia, eighteen hundred and seventy-one and eighteen
hundred and seventy-two, approved March twenty-third, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-two, placed in the hands of James
H. Neville, who has been prevented, by sickness and death,
from settling said accounts with the treasurer of the county of
Clarke: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the treasurer
of the county of Clarke be authorized to receive from the per-
sonal representative of said James H. Neville, the amount of
said taxes collected by him, and the uncollected tax bills, giv-
ing said personal representative credit by the whole amount of
money and tax accounts so received, and placing said tax bills
in the regular course of collection with the taxes of the current
year: provided, that nothing in this act shall be construed as
releasing the sureties of the said Charles A. Milton, or the
sureties of the said James H. Neville, from any lability incur-
red by virtue of their official bonds.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
