Chap. 236.—An ACT to Authorize an Artificial Arm, or Commutation
therefor, to be Issued to Moses Cavanaugh.
In force March 26, 1873.
Whereas, it is represented to the general assembly that
Moses Cavanaugh, a citizen of Great Britain, enlisted in the
service of the Confederate States during the late war, in a Vir-
ginia regiment, and, while serving in said regiment, lost an arm
in battle; and whereas, the present law allows artificial limbs,
or commutation therefor, to be issued only to citizens of this
state, and although said Cavanaugh has resided in this state
since the close of the late war to the present time, he is not a
naturalized citizen of the United States or of this state:
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the board for
supply of artificial limbs be and they are hereby authorized and
directed, on the production before them of the certificate of the
judge of the hustings court of Staunton that the said Moses
Cavanaugh is a resident of this state and lost an arm in the
late war while serving in a Virginia regiment, to issue to him
an artificial arm, or commutation therefor, as he may select.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
