Chap. 507.—An ACT to authorize and empower the State Highway Commissioner
of Virginia, subject to the approval of the State Highway Commission, upon
the request of the governing bodies in incorporated towns of less than 3500
inhabitants, according to the last United States census, to select certain streets
and roads for maintenance, improvement, construction and re-construction
from funds available from the secondary system of highways; to provide that
any such incorporated town shall have two miles of streets or roads included
in the secondary system of highways whether such two miles of streets and
roads constitute connecting links between roads in the secondary system in
the several counties and between roads in the secondary system and roads in
the primary system of State highway system or not; to provide further that said
Commissioner, with the approval of the State Highway Commission, ne,
in addition to the said two miles, upon the request of the governing
of said towns, increase the mileage of streets and roads in such oor porated
towns annually, beginning with the fiscal year July 1, 1948, not to exceed
one-fourth mile; and to repeal any provisions of existing statutes which are
or may be construed to be in conflict with any of the provisions hereof. [S 234]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the State Highway Commissioner of Virginia, is hereby
authorized and empowered, subject to the approval of the State Highway
Commission, upon request of the governing bodies in incorporated towns
of less than three thousand five hundred inhabitants, according to the
last United States census, to select certain streets and roads in such
towns for maintenance, improvement, construction and re-construction
from allocations available from secondary funds not to exceed two miles
of streets or roads in such incorporated towns included in the secondary
system of highways whether such two miles of streets or roads constitute
connecting links between roads in the secondary system in the several
counties and between roads in the secondary system and roads in the
primary system of the State highways or not.
2. That the said Commissioner is hereby authorized and empowered,
with the approval of the State Highway Commission, in addition to the
said two miles to increase the mileage of streets and roads in such incor-
porated towns annually beginning with the fiscal year July one, nineteen
hundred forty-eight, not to exceed, however, in any one year one-fourth
mile.
3. That this section shall repeal any provisions of existing statutes
which are or may be construed to be in conflict with the provisions
hereof.
