Chap. 180.—An ACT to Prevent the Placing of Obstructions in Sycamore
Creek, in the County of New Kent.
In force March 14, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be unlawful for any person to fell any timber so as tc
obstruct, or make or cause to be made any weir hedge, or put
any stakes or brush, or fence, or other obstructions, in Syca:
more mill creek, in the county of New Kent, leading from low.
water mark on the Pamunkey river to the mill of R. P. Cooke
on Sycamore mill creek, so as to obstruct the free passage ot
boats, canoes or other floating vessels, or fish, from coming to
said Cooke's mill, and the free passage of water from the mill
to the river. : |
2. Any person or persons so offending shall be deemed guilty
of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction before the county court
shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than
fifty dollars, and in addition, at the discretion of the court,
shall be subjected to imprisonment in the county jail for a
period not less than thirty days nor more than ninety days for
each such offence. :
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
