Chap. 39.—An ACT to provide for the a appolnicert of general registrars for
towns in certain counties and to prescribe the duties of such registrars when
appointed. [H 56]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. The electoral board of each county having a population of
not less than nineteen thousand nor more than twenty-nine thousand
and adjoining a city having a population of not less than one hun-
dred forty thousand, all according to the Jast preceding United
States census, may appoint a general registrar for each town in
such county which has a population in excess of twenty-five
hundred inhabitants. Each such registrar so appointed shall take
office on March one, nineteen hundred forty-eight, and shall hold
office for one year and until his successor is duly appointed and
qualified. Such general registrar shall assume all duties of the
present registrar in such town, and shall sit for the purpose of
registration of voters on any additional days as may be prescribed
by the electoral board. He shall be subject to and governed by the
general laws of Virginia applicable to registrars.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
