Chap. 320.—An ACT to amend the Tax Code of Virginia by adding a new section
numbered 179-b, authorizing the governing bodies of counties to impose and
collect certain license taxes and to provide penalties for violations. [H 335]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Tax Code of Virginia be amended by adding a new
section numbered one hundred seventy-nine-b as follows:
Section 179-b. The governing body of each and every county
in this State is hereby authorized and empowered to impose a
license upon every person who, for compensation, shall pretend to
tell fortunes, assume to act as a clairvoyant, or to practice palmistry
or phrenology in each county in which any such business is done.
Any governing body may provide that anv person who for com-
pensation shall engage in the practice above described in this sec-
tion without the license required shall be fined not less than fifty
dollars nor more than five hundred dollars for each offense.
