Chap. 279.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of certain general regis-
trars in certain counties and to prescribe the duties of such registrars when
so appointed. {[H 252]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. The electoral board of any county having a
population of more than twenty-two thousand four hundred but
less than twenty-two thousand seven hundred according to the
last preceding United States census may appoint a general regis-
trar for each town in such county which has a population in excess
of twenty-five hundred inhabitants. Each such registrar so ap-
pointed shall take office on March one, nineteen hundred forty-
eight, and shall hold office for one year and until his successor is
duly appointed and qualified. Such general registrar shall assume
all duties of the present registrar in such town, and shall sit for the
purpose of registration of voters on any additional days as may
be prescribed by the electoral board. He shall act as general regis-
trar for the town and for such precincts as his electoral board may
prescribe. He shall be subject to and governed by the general laws
of Virginia applicable to registrars.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
