Chap. 156.—An ACT for the Relief of the Sureties of William M. Hume,
deceased, late Sheriff of Fauquier County.
In force March 11, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the auditor
of public accounts be and he is hereby authorized and empow-
ered, if in his judgment the interest of the commonwealth will
not be prejudiced thereby, to forbear the collection from the
sureties of William M. Hume, deceased, on his official bond as
sheriff of the county of Fauquier, of any balance that may be
due from the said Hume as sheriff of said county on the public
revenue which was in his hands at the time of his death, to an
amount not exceeding the sum of thirteen thousand three
hundred and thirty-seven dollars and sixty cents, for the period
of two years from the passage of this act: provided, however,
that the auditor shall, if he thinks the interest of the common-
wealth requires it, have power to institute proceedings and
enforce the collection of said balance at an earlier day than that
above specified.
2. Nothing in this act shall be construed as restraining the
auditor from proceeding against the estate of the said William
M. Hume in the same manner as if this act had not been
passed. }
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
