Chap. 223.—An ACT to provide that all existing leases of lands for the operation
and development of oil and gas in the State of Virginia shall be construed as
if containing certain provisions with respect to offset wells. [S 237]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1, All leases heretofore entered into for operation or develop-
ment of oil and gas in the Commonwealth of Virginia shall be
construed as if they contained a provision that the lessee shall drill
an offset to any well or adjoining land which is within three hun-
dred and fifty feet of any outer boundary of the land covered by the
lease, and which well on adjoining land is producing petroleum
in paying quantities and draining the lands covered by the lease.
such offset well to be begun within ninety days from the date on
which this act becomes effective or from the date of completion of
the adjoining well, whichever is later, and drilled with due diligence
to completion.
