Chap. 15,—An ACT to Incorporate the Town of New Market, in the County
of Shenandoah.
In force December 25, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the town of New Market, in the county of Shenandoah, be and
is hereby declared incorporated under the provisions of the act
entitled ‘an act for the government of cities and towns of less
than five thousand inhabitants,” approved November fifth,
eighteen hundred and seventy.
2. That the president of the present board of trustees of
New Market shall order a special election in said town, to be
held within thirty days after the approval of this act, for the
purpose of electing officers in accordance herewith, who shall
hold their offices until the first day of July, eighteen hundred
and seventy-three: said election to be conducted as provided in
the general election laws of the state.
3. That the mayor and council elected at said special election
are hereby madé and declared the legal successors of the pre-
sent existing board of trustees of said town.
4. That the mayor and council aforesaid shall have the
privilege of renting or building a guard house, in which to
confine violators of the peace, convicted under the laws of the
state of Virginia, and the by-laws made and provided by the
council in accordance with the laws of the state.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage. ©
