Chap. 83.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Chapter 106 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1927, approved April 18, 1927, relative to construction of certain walkways
adjacent to certain parts of highways of the State Highway System, so as to
extend and enlarge the authority of the State Highway Commission in this
regard; and to repeal Section 4732 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, and
Chapter 133 of the Acts of Assembly of 1938, approved March 12, 1938, rela-
tive to the same subject matter. {S B 13]]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter one hundred six of the Acts of Assembly of nine-
teen hundred twenty-seven, approved April eighteen, nineteen hundred
twenty-seven, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
The State Highway Commission is authorized to construct such
sidewalks or walkways on the bridges and along the highways under its
jurisdiction as it deems necessary for the protection of pedestrian traffic.
All the provisions of general law with respect to the acquisition of
lands and interests therein, and the construction, reconstruction, altera-
tion, improvement and maintenance of highways in the primary and
secondary systems of State highways, including the exercise of the pow-
er of eminent domain by the State Highway Commission and the State
Highway Commissioner, shall be applicable to such sidewalks and walk-
ways. The State Highway Commission is authorized to expend out of
funds appropriated to it such amounts as are necessary to carry out the
provisions of this act as amended.
2. Section forty-seven hundred thirty-two of the Code of Virginia
as amended, and chapter one hundred thirty-three of the Acts of As-
sembly of nineteen hundred thirty-eight, approved March twelve, nine-
teen hundred thirty-eight, relative to the same subject matter, are re-
pealed.
