Chap. 63.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 2, as amended, of Chapter
180 of the Acts of Assembly of 1918, approved March 14, 1918, which chapter
provided for the establishment and operation of community homes for the care
and maintenance of the poor, Section 2 relating to the selection of farms for
such homes, and compensation of members of the board selected to control

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section two, as amended, of chapter one hundred eighty ot
the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred eighteen, approved March four-
teen, nineteen hundred eighteen, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 2. That each of these homes shall be erected upon a farm
of suitable size and of soil susceptible of high improvement, and be con-
trolled by a board to consist of at least one representative from each
county and city composing the district, but where a county or city shall
have more than twenty thousand inhabitants its representative shall
have one vote and an additional vote for every twenty thousand inhabi-
tants or fractional part thereof over ten thousand; provided, that no city
shall have more votes in any district than the combined votes of the
counties composing the districts. The representatives from the counties
shall be elected by the board of supervisors, and from the cities by the
councils thereof, and shall be entitled to necessary expenses incurred in
attending meetings of the board, and in addition each shall receive an
allowance of five dollars ($5.00) per day for each day that he shall be in
attendance on said board, said allowance, however, not to exceed in any
one year the sum of sixty dollars ($60.00), to be paid by the counties
and cities, respectively ; provided, however, that in the district composed
of Augusta, Albemarle, Alleghany, Bath and Rockbridge, and the dis-
trict composed of Amherst, Campbell, Halifax, Henry, Patrick and
Pittsylvania, the compensation of the representatives on the board shall
be seven dollars ($7.00) per day and expenses, but the maximum allow-
ance in any one year shall not exceed the sum of one hundred fifty dol-
lars ($150.00) ; provided that the representatives of the county of Fair-
fax upon any district home board shall each receive seven dollars ($7.00)
a day and expenses for each day in attendance on such board, not to ex-
ceed, however, one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) in any one year. The
accounts for such expenses and allowances shall be made out and verified
by affidavits of the representative and attested by the secretary of the
board. |
