Chap. 396.—An ACT to ametd the Code of Virginia by adding two new sections
numbered 683-a 1, and 683-a 2, to require, and specify the use of, certain
equipment on school buses and to prescribe penalties. [H B 414]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding two new sec-
tions numbered six hundred eighty-three-a one and six hundred eighty-
three-a two, as follows:
Section 683-a 1. Warning devices on school buses, use.—Each
-ounty and city school board operating any school bus or for whom any
school bus is operated, shall have each such school bus equipped with a
warning device of such type as may be prescribed by the State Board of
<ducation, which shall indicate when such bus is stopped, and taking on
yr discharging school children.
Any person operating such bus who fails or refuses to equip such
ehicle being driven by him without such equipment, or who fails to use
uch warning devices in the operation of such vehicle shall be guilty of a
nisdemeanor, and shall, on conviction be fined not less than five dollars
or more than twenty-five dollars.
Section 683-a 2. The failure of any such bus to have or operate
such safety devices shall not relieve the operator of any motor vehicle
from the duty to stop at or before passing such stopped bus while taking
on or discharging school children, as provided by subsection five of sec-
tion sixty-one of the Motor Vehicle Code of Virginia, as amended.
