Chap. 373.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 1 of Chapter 396 of the Acts
of the General Assembly of 1940, approved April 1, 1940, relating to an optional
form of county organization and government, so as to permit the adoption of
such form by any county in the State having a density of population of 500
or more inhabitants per square mile of highland, and to validate the adoption
ereof.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section one of chapter three hundred and ninety-six of the
Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred forty, approved April one, nine-
teen hundred forty, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 1. Any county in the State adjoining a county in the State
having,’ according to the last preceding United States census, a density
of population of six hundred or more inhabitants per square mile, and
any county in the State having a density of population according to such
last preceding census of five hundred or more inhabitants per square mile
of highland, is hereby authorized to adopt the County Board form of ©
county organization and government provided for in the following sec-
tions of this act, by complying with the requirements and procedure here-
inafter specified.
The act of any county in adopting the form of government herein
authorized is hereby confirmed; all acts of such county, contracts and
undertakings of such county are hereby validated.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
