Chap. 350.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 1, as amended, of Chapter 15
of the Acts of Assembly of 1927, approved April 11, 1927, relating to zoning
in certain counties, so as to make certain change or changes as to the scope of
the act. [H B 427]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section one, as amended, of chapter fifteen of the Acts of
Assembly of nineteen hundred twenty-seven, approved April eleven,
nineteen hundred twenty-seven, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 1. For the purpose of promoting the health, safety, morals
and general welfare of the community, the governing body of any county
having a density of population of more than five hundred a square mile,
or of any county adjoining a city having a population of one hundred
thousand or more, or of any county having a land area of less than sev-
enty-five but more than sixty square miles and a population of less than
ten thougand but more than eight thousand all as shown by the last pre-
ceding United States census, may by ordinance regulate and restrict the
height, number of stories and size of buildings and other structures
erected in the county, or the percentage of a lot that may be occupied
by the building or structure, or the size of yards, courts and other open
spaces, the density of population, and the location and use of buildings,
structures and land for trade, industry, residence or other purposes, and
may prescribe the types of materials to be used in buildings and other
structures.
The governing body of any county having a land area of more than
sixty but less than seventy-five square miles and a population of more
than eight thousand but less than ten thousand, as shown by such census,
and which, for the purposes hereinabove stated, adopts any ordinances
hereinbefore authorized may, to further promote such purposes, by
ordinance regulate the types of materials to be used for electrical wiring
and fixtures, and used in heating, safety and sanitary facilities and the
installation thereof.
