CHAP. 289.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 1952, as amended, of the
Code of Virginia so as to provide for reimbursing cities one-half of the com-
pensation paid clerks, bailiffs, and other employees of juvenile and domestic
relations courts. [H B 150]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section nineteen hundred fifty-two, as amended, of the
ode of Virginia be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1952. Clerks and bailiffs of courts; their powers and duties.
‘The said special justice shall have the power to appoint a clerk and a
iliff, and with the approval of the council or other governing body of
ch city, such other employees as may be necessary for the proper con-
ct of his said court. The duties of such employees shall be prescribed
the justice of said court. The bailiff shall have the power and au-
yrity of a police officer. The compensation that such clerk, bailiff and
.er employees of said court shall receive for their services shall be
fixed by the council or other governing body of said city and shall be
paid out of the city treasury.
The Commonwealth shall reimburse such city annually at the end of
each fiscal year one-half of the compensation paid such clerk, bailiff and
other employees during each such year, Such reimbursements shall be
paid by the State Treasurer out of funds appropriated in the general
appropriations act for criminal costs, on warrants of the Comptroller
issued upon vouchers approved and signed by the State Commissioner
of Public Welfare, or by such person as may be designated by said Com-
missioner.
