Chap. 267.—An ACT for the relief of the American National Bank and Trust
Company of Danville. [H B 386]
Whereas, on June fourteen, nineteen hundred forty-four, one Joseph
R. Harrison borrowed certain funds from the American National Bank
and Trust Company of Danville, in the amount of two hundred sixty
dollars and forty-five cents ($260.45), and gave the bank a lien on the
title to a certain Studebaker automobile, which title was forwarded to
the Division of Motor Vehicles by the bank for recording ; and
Whereas, the Division through error issued a title without showing
the bank’s lien and mailed the same to Mr. Harrison who thereupon took
such title and made a loan from a second bank; and
Whereas, the second bank foreclosed under its recorded lien and the
American National Bank and Trust Company was only paid forty-three
dollars and thirty-five cents ($43.35), leaving a balance of two hundred
six dollars and seventy cents $206.70) ; and
Whereas, it is only just that the bank should be reimbursed for the
loss caused it by the Division; Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated out of funds in the State treasury
to the credit of the Division of Motor Vehicles the sum of two hundred
six dollars seventy cents to be paid to the American National Bank and
Trust Company of Danville by the State Treasurer on warrants of the
Comptroller.
