Chap. 53.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 3035 of the Code of Virginia,
as amended, relating to pensions and group insurance for certain city officials
and employees, so as to include death benefits. [H 103}

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: |
1. That section thirty hundred thirty-five of the Code of Virginia, as
amended, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
-Section 3035. Pensions, death benefits and group insurance for ofh-
cers and employees of cities——The governing bodies of the cities of the
first class may, by ordinance adopted by a recorded vote of a majority
of the members elected or a majority elected to each branch, if there be
more than one branch, establish a system of pensions, death benefits or
group insurance for injured, retired or superannuated or dependents of
deceased officers and employees of such cities, or any department thereof,
including retired teachers and other retired employees of such cities’
school boards, other than those elected by the people. The ordinance
may establish a fund for the payment of such pensions, group insurance
or death benefits by making appropriations out of the treasury of the city
or by requiring contributions, payable from time to time, or both; or by
any other mode not prohibited by law.
