Chap. 357.—An ACT to require a special license to hunt deer or bear in Wise and
Buchanan counties, and to provide that fees collected for the license shall be
used for the payment of damages to crops and livestock by deer or bear in
the several counties. [H 328]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. It is unlawful for any person to hunt deer or, bear i in
Wise and Buchanan counties without having obtained a special license
stamp, the fee for which is one dollar annually, in each county in which
the person hunts. The stamp shall be adhesively affixed to the back of the
season's hunting license issued such person who shall cancel the same
with his initials in ink. 7
Section 2. The money received from the sale of the special stamp
in the several counties shall be paid into the game protection fund, and
the net amount thereof received from the respective counties or so much
as may be necessary, shall be used for the payment of damages to crops
by deer and to livestock by bear, whenever the damage amounts to ten
dollars or more. The amount of damage which may be paid to a person
or persons in any one of the counties is limited to the net amount ac-
cruing to the Commission from the sales of the stamps in that particular
county, and may be used to pay any damage to crops by deer, and live-
stock by bear. Any person whose crops or livestock are so damaged
shall report it promptly to the game warden of the county in which the
damage occurs, whose duty it is to investigate the matter at once. The
claim for damages shall be filed in duplicate under oath on forms fur-
nished by the Commission. If the claimant and game warden agree as to
the amount of damage the game warden shall.approve the claim and for-
ward it to the Commission: If no agreement is reached between them
the claim shall be submitted to the arbitration of three persons in the
customary manner and the award of the arbitrators shall be final and
binding.
Section 3. The special stamp herein provided for shall be obtained
from the clerk of the circuit court of the county in which the license stamp
is to be used, and the Commission shall pay the clerk the sum of ten cents
for each stamp issued by him. Any violation of the provisions of this
act 1s a misdemeanor.
