Chap. 307.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 11, as amended, of Chapter
527 of the Acts of Assembly of 1891-92, approved March 1, 1892, which pro-
vided a charter for the Town of Gate City (formerly Estillville), in the County
of Scott, Section 11 relating to levying taxes. [H 386]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section eleven. as amended, of chapter five hundred twenty-
seven of the Acts of the General Assembly of eighteen hundred ninety-
one-ninety-two, approved March one, eighteen hundred ninety-two, be
amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 11. The council may lay a sufficient levy annually, on all the
property in the town subject to local taxation, for the purpose of defrav-
ing the expenses incurred by the town, or for the purpose of erecting
buildings and making improvements deemed necessary by the council;
provided that the levy shall not exceed two dollars and one half on the
one hundred dollars assessed value of the property, and that no other
property, nor any trade, profession, or occupation shall be liable to tax-
ation by the town otherwise than as provided by the laws of this State.
