Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter three hundred twenty-six of the Acts of As-
sembly of nineteen hundred thirty-eight, approved March twenty-
nine, nineteen hundred thirty-eight, as amended, be amended and
re-enacted, as follows:
The governing body of any county having a population of less
than eighteen thousand according to the latest preceding United
States census is authorized to contribute from funds derived from
the general county levy such sum or sums as, in its discretion, it
deems proper towards the salary or compensation of the deputy
clerk of the circuit court of the county.
