Chap. 248.—An ACT to authorize the Governor of Virginia and the State Hos-
pital Board, on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to convey to the
College of William and Mary in Virginia, as a gift and without any considera-
tion paid therefor, certain property of the Eastern State Hospital in the city
of Williamsburg and the county of James City. [S 162]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. The Governor of Virginia and the State Hospital
Board are hereby jointly authorized and empowered, on behalf of the
Commonwealth of Virginia, whenever in their judgment and uncontrolled
discretion it is fitting and proper so to do, to transfer and convey to the
College of William and Mary in Virginia, as a gift and without any
consideration paid therefor, all right, title and interest of the Eastern
State Hospital and of the Commonwealth of Virginia in and to the follow-
ing property: (1) All or any part of a tract of land of approximately
two hundred seven acres, together with all improvements thereon and
all privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging, lying partly within
the corporate limits of the city of Williamsburg and partly in James City
County, and extending from France Street in the city of Williamsburg
on the north to Paper Hill Creek in the county of James City on the
south, and from Colonial Parkway on the east to Princess Road and
Henry Street on the west, but excluding from such transfer and con-
yeyance a tract of approximately ten acres adjacent to Cedar Grove
Cemetery and included within the boundaries set out herein; and (2)
all or any part of a lot of land on the north side of France Street between
Henry and Nassau Streets, and extending back northwardly between
Henry and Nassau Streets to property. owned by Williamsburg Restora-
tion, Incorporated, and others.
Section 2, The transfer and conveyance hereby authorized shall be
by proper deed or deeds, executed in the name of the Commonwealth of
Virginia by the Governor and the Secretary of the Commonwealth,
under the lesser seal of the Commonwealth, and in the name of the East-
ern State Hospital by the chairman of the State Hospital Board.
Section 3. This act shall not be construed to limit or otherwise
affect the power and authority conferred upon the Governor and the
State Hospital Board by chapter two hundred eight of the Acts of As-
sembly of nineteen hundred thirty-eight, approv red March nincteenth,
nineteen hundred thirty-eight, it being intended that the power and au-
thority herein conferred shall be an additional grant of power applicable
only to the property described in this act.
