Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. The County of Orange may assume and pay a certain
debt in the amount of thirty thousand dollars owed by Gordon Magisterial
District in the county for the construction of certain roads, provided the
voters in the county vote in favor of the assumption of such debt at the
next general election held in November, nineteen hundred forty-four.
Section 2. The clerk of the circuit court of Orange county shall
cause to have printed and posted at the front door of the courthouse at
least thirty days prior to the election proper notice of the proposal to be
submitted to the voters, and shall cause like notice to be published once

county, and if none, then in a newspaper having general circulation
therein.
Section 3. The ballots for the election shall be prepared, distributed
and voted, and the result thereof ascertained and certified, in the manner
prescribed by section one hundred ninety-seven-a of the Code of Virginia
as amended.

tion shall be validated and shall not be questioned thereafter by the
county.
Section 5. The governing body of the county is authorized to levy
and collect taxes throughout the county for and apply them to the payment
of the debt if the result of the election is that the county shall assume the
debt.
Section 6. Nothing herein shall affect the validity of the debt or the
ultimate obligation of Gordon Magisterial District to discharge same
whether or not the county assumes payment of the debt.
