Chap. 459.—An ACT to amend arid re-enact Section 29 of an Act entitled “An Act
to provide a new charter for the town of Covington, in the county of Alleghany,
and to repeal all other acts ‘with reference thereto.”, approved April 2, 1902, so
as to change the manner of filling vacancies in the council. [H B 527]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
twenty-nine of an act entitled “An Act to provide a new charter for the
town of Covington, in the county of Alleghany, and to repeal all other
acts with reference thereto.”, approved April second, nineteen hundred
and two, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 29. In ease of any vacancy or vacancies occurring in the
council by death, resignation, removal, or otherwise, such vacancy or
vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term by the qualified voters of
the town at a spgcial election called and held for the purpose. Within ten
days after the otcurrence of any such vacancy the mayor shall issue his
writ for an election to fill such vacancy or vacancies, and such election
shall be called and held and the results thereof ascertained and certified
in the manner prescribed by the general election laws of the State for
other elections. Any person desiring to be a candidate to fill any such
vacancy shall give notice of his intention as in other elections.
