Chap. 453.——An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 1 of Chapter 170 of the Acts
of the General Assembly of 1936, approved March 12, 1936, creating the Virginia
Advisory Legislative Council and prescribing its powers and duties, so as to
ptescribe a different method for appointing the members of the said council and
to fix-their term of office. [H B 506]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly .of Virginia, That section
one of chapter one hundred and seventy of the Acts of the General As-
sembly of nineteen hundred and thirty-six, approved March twelfth,
nineteen hundred and thirty-six, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 1. There is hereby created a legislative council to be known
as the Virginia Advisory Legislative Council, hereafter referred to in
this act as the council. The council shall consist of seven members, of
whom three shall be appointed by the President of the Senate from the
membership of the Senate, four by the Speaker of the House of Delegates
from the membership of the House. The members shall hold office until
the adjournment of the next regular session of the General Assembly, and
until their successors have been appointed. Vacancies in the membership
of the council shall be filled in the same manner as original appointments
are made, except that if for any reason an appointment cannot be made
by the President or President pro tempore of the Senate or the Speaker
of the House of Delegates, the vacancy shall be filled by the Governor.
The council shall designate one of its members as chairman.
