1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
one, chapter eleven, of an act entitled “An act to provide a new charter
for the City of Portmouth.”, approved March tenth, nineteen hundred
and eight, which was added to said charter by chapter one hundred and
sixty-nine of the Acts of nineteen hundred and twenty, approved March
fifteenth, ninteen hundred and twenty, be amended and re-enacted, as
follows: .
Chapter 11, Section 1. The city council, out of the general funds
of the city, shall grant and pay to each member of said council, including
the mayor, elected or appointed under or in pursuance of an act entitled
an act to provide for change in the form of government of cities having
a population of less than one hundred thousand, and of towns, and to
provide in what manner such cities and towns may adopt such form of
Zovernment, approved March twentieth, nineteen hundred and sixteen,
and subsequently amended, an annual compensation of nine hundred
dollars.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
